Over 110 parents, students, and representatives from Edison High School attended the 8th Grade Transition to High School Night on Tuesday, October 21st. After receiving information about high school, families mingled and enjoyed pizza for dinner.
The event, sponsored by Educational Talent Search, included a discussion about the upcoming EXPLORE test. This test, given in November, is the 8th grade version of the ACT and is given to 8th graders across the country. The test will help students prepare for the 10th grade PLAN test as well as the ACT given in 11th and 12th grades. The results, available in January, will give students specific strategies to improve their scores.
Throughout the year there will be district-sponsored meetings, language-specific meetings, and high school open houses/tours to provide families with the information they will need to make decisions about high school. In December a choice packet will be mailed home and the online request center will be available. All MPS students need to fill out a request form by February 28th, 2015.
A great big "Congrats" and "Thank you" to counselors Debbie Nelson and Erica Gates Routa as well as NEMS and Edison supporting staff for a very successful event!
