On Friday, February 10th, Northeast Middle School 8th graders participated in our seventh annual Model United Nations Conference. Before the big day, students spent a month researching a chosen country and writing a formal paper about their country's position on global refugee issues. Many students rewrote portions of their papers to follow current world events.
Nearly two hundred students participated in five separate committees, simulating the United Nations forum. They made speeches, negotiated, and wrote resolutions in an effort to help the world's refugees. Model UN club members from the University of Minnesota and Cambridge High School helped lead the forums. These experts couldn't stop talking about the great ideas our students generated -- it was a great day of learning!
