The counselor at Northeast Middle School is Deborah Nelson. She is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Her office is located in the school's main office area. Ms. Nelson has been the counselor at NEMS since 2005. She has a K-12 School Counselor License earned from the University of Minnesota in May of 2005. Previous to school counseling, Ms. Nelson was a Rehabilitation Counselor for the State of Minnesota for ten years. She helped people with disabilities reach their vocational goals.

Ms. Nelson's philosophy is to help students to help themselves. Her goal is to reach all students through classroom guidance lessons, individual planning and counseling, and small group counseling.
