On Wednesday, October 28, fourteen AVID students from NEMS traveled to Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) for an event encouraging college readiness. In order to attend, students needed to submit a project describing their future and/or college plans. Out of over 100 students from five MPS middle schools, four NEMS students won recognition for their projects: Ramon, Humom, Mariah, and Anna. Throughout the day, students listened to student-athletes about their experiences before and during college, took a tour of MCTC, played College Readiness Jeopardy, and received materials about what they can do to ensure that attending college is an attainable goal.

Later in the week, AVID students had the opportunity to attend a performance at the Ordway. Rasta Thomas' Bad Boys of Dance is "a male dance troupe that combines ballet, jazz, ballroom, hip hop, gymnastics, and martial arts to deliver a highly imaginative and entertaining show. Founded by dance superstar Rasta Thomas, The Bad Boys are an unstoppable force that electrifies audiences around the world."
