The 7th and 8th grade AVID students took their annual trip to Wisconsin for a "college and history tour" on February 11-13, 2014. The first stop was to UW-Stout where we took a guided walking tour of campus and then asked questions to a panel of current college students. Day two of the trip brought us to Madison, WI, where we visited the Wisconsin Historical Museum, the Wisconsin Veteran's Museum, and the Wisconsin State Capitol. We then headed over to UW-Madison where we took a campus bus tour and did a scavenger hunt in the Discovery building. The last visit was to UW-Eau Claire where we indulged at the all-you-can eat student cafeteria. We then worked off the meal on a self-guided walking tour of lower campus.
We spent our evenings studying and playing at the Kalahari Resort and Hotels in Wisconsin Dells. The water park and theme park were highlights! Not to mention the coach bus which allowed us to travel in luxury. Ms. Adams, Ms. Malone, Ms. Nelson, and AVID tutors Marc and Alex facilitated the tour. We arrived back to Northeast Middle School just in time for parent/teacher conferences with happy children and tired adults. Planning for next year is already in the works.
