Northeast: 12 vs. Anthony: 8 at Washburn High Field
The game started off with Anthony winning the toss and choosing to defer. Northeast chose to receive the kickoff. After the kickoff on the second play from scrimmage, Robert C. from Northeast took a sweep to the left 70 yards for a touchdown in the 1st quarter. After several series the score was 6-0 Northeast after the 1st quarter.
In the 2nd quarter, Tenzing C. picked off the quarterback from Anthony, but it led to a four and out for the offense. On Anthony's next drive they scored on a 2-yard touchdown run and also converted the extra point which led to a halftime score of 8-6.
From the 3rd quarter on, the Northeast defense stood strong figuring out that the running back would always run to the strong side of the hash mark where the ball was placed. This led to many four and outs for Anthony in the 3rd quarter. Northeast also had a tough time moving the ball in the 3rd quarter, and the score at the end of the 3rd quarter was still 8-6 Anthony.
In the early 4th quarter, Northeast finally scored on a 7-yard pitch play to the right to Robert C. who managed to break several tackles on his way to the end zone. After missing the extra point conversion, the score was 12-8. Anthony had one last chance with first down on the 2-yard late in the 4th quarter, but Northeast made a goal line stand stopping them four times in a row to seal it -- and win the championship for the third straight year!
Overall, it was a great season and the players really grew a lot as a team and individually throughout the season. Northeast looks forward to defending the championship next year! Winning three championships in a row ties the record for most championships in a row with Antwatin, who did it the three previous years before us.
