Ms. Fang-Ju Lin’s Chinese Language students took another step toward enhancing their cultural proficiency recently. Working with musician-composer Ye Yu, these young people learned how Chinese music influences Western musicians, and how the music of the Occident has shaped the music of the Orient. Combining demonstrations using the saxophone, a traditional Chinese drum called a Gu, a dulcimer-like instrument known as a Yangqin, this teacher and our students made beautiful music together.
