GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a seven-year federal grant through the U.S. Department of Education that will increase the number of MPS district students who enroll and succeed in post-secondary education.

GEAR UP support will “move up” with the current 7th & 8th graders each year through 12th grade to prepare and assist them to successfully enroll in college. GEAR UP will serve a total of 2,560 students from 12 middle schools through high school graduation.

 GOALS

  • Increase students’ academic performance and prepare them for college
  • Increase the number of students to graduate from high school
  • Increase the number of students to enroll and succeed in college
  • Increase students’ and families’ knowledge of college and post-secondary options and how to plan and pay for them
