NEMS Boys' BB Team in Final Four

The Boys and Girls Basketball season was very successful overall.

The boys' team enjoyed an undefeated regular season led by Coach Weatherspoon. There were a number of strong contributors to the team, and that is what has made them successful. They made the playoffs as the number one seed in the middle school bracket and beat Keeywadin and Antwatin in the playoffs. Their next matchup is against Sullivan, at Southwest, on Monday, February 2nd. If they win that game, they will play for the championship at North High School on Wednesday, February 4th.

The girls' team, lead by Coach Jones, enjoyed one of their best seasons in six years. They won three games and lost three games which is an improvement from last year. This was also the first time in six years the girls were an actual seed in the playoffs which should improve with many girls coming back for next year’s team.

The great thing about both programs is the students’ growth in understanding the game of basketball. They are gaining the skills they need in order to play at the next level, and that’s a goal of our program. We want to produce student athletes who excel in the classroom and on the basketball court.

Note: Tryouts for Spring Baseball and Softball will be the 2nd week of March.
