NEMS's Urban Debate League Team members acquitted themselves most honorably at Thursday's debate “throw-down” at Como High School in St. Paul. Despite facing folks from larger and older programs, our Fearless Foursome (Clara, Liam, Jimmy, and Sophia) went 4 – 2 in total.

Each two-person team debated a plan to reduce U.S. troop presence in Afghanistan to 13,000. The teams had to argue both the pros and the cons over the course of three competitive rounds - that’s two full hours of practically non-stop “in your face” foreign policy slammin’.

Through debate, young people not only develop valuable skills, but it can also be a gateway to greater things -- middle school debate can lead to high school debate, and a four year commitment to high school debate can translate into a full-ride to college! For details on how your son or daughter can participate, e-mail Joseph.Bloedoorn@mpls.k12.mn.us – there’s still room!
