The Northeast GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math, and Sciences) team competed in the district-wide robotic tournament on January 19, winning an award for innovative design.
The team spent all Fall preparing for the tournament. Preparation included programming, testing, and debugging. Robots earn points for successfully meeting a range of challenges, and teams are judged on both design and programming. The team members also had to interview a local senior citizen, research a common issue faced by seniors, and develop a creative solution to that issue.
The following Northeast students participated throughout the season: Fadumo Ahmed, Ella Haugesag, Nadine Hinson, Victoria Inamagua, Helen Kohlmetz, Gelsey Paredes-Paredes, and Kathy Xiong.
