The Community Ed Beacons Program at Northeast participated in Youth Day at the Minnesota State Capitol. Over a hundred students from 15 schools participated in Youth Day, and these students got to see how their voices can be heard in government:
● They met with nine different legislators
● They gained valuable advocacy and leaderships skills from people in the community
● They toured the Capitol building
● They heard keynote speakers ranging from a reporter from Kare-11, a youth political leader and a singer/songwriter activist
It was a great day!
The Northeast Middle School Beacons Skate Club had the opportunity to visit Familia HQ Skate Park for an exclusive tour, one-on-one demos with local skater Tabari Cook, and skating fun!
Also, the Beacons Leadership Team took a service learning trip to Second Harvest where they packed 6,762 pounds of food equaling to 5,000 meals.
