Two "Bees" Keep NEMS Buzzing

Jamin Eisenberg, the NEMS Spelling Bee Champion, competed in an online Spelling and Vocabulary Event and advanced to the Regional Finals for Spelling! The Regional Bee will be held at Augsburg College on March 21st.

Northeast Middle School students had the opportunity to participate in two "Bees" -- a Geography Bee and a Spelling Bee.

On Monday, Jan. 12th, students participated in the first-ever Geography Bee at Northeast Middle School. After facing some very difficult questions about national and world geography, about eight students made it to the second round during which they were given a map of statistical data to interpret. This narrowed the field to two contestants. In the final round, 8th grader Ella Haugesag became the first-ever school-wide Geography Bee champion with 6th grader Hnukusha Vue coming in second. Ella will now take a test to determine if she continues to the State Geography Bee -- good luck, Ella!

On Wednesday, Jan. 14th, the largest number of students to participate in the Northeast Middle School Spelling Bee competed in several rounds of stiff competition. In the end, 8th grader Jamin Eisenberg took first place with the word "appreciative". 8th grader Essence Rulford took second place while 6th grader Toby Beck came in third. Jamin will represent NEMS at the District Spelling Bee at Sheridan on Thursday, Jan. 22nd -- good luck, Jamin!

Congratulations to all the participants in both Bees for demonstrating the following IB characteristics: knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers.
