The Ha Family Lion Dance Troupe ushered in the Chinese New Year here in the NEMS Auditorium. In addition to the Lion Dance, troupe members performed a variety of ribbon dances, and explained the symbolic meaning of the color red. Students also had a chance to perform as a troupe member demonstrated some basic ribbon dance movements. In closing the assembly, Ms. Kimberlee Adams acknowledged the 8th Graders in attendance for their leadership and poise in setting the example for younger members of the audience.
The new year is the most significant holiday on the Chinese calendar – fifteen full days are dedicated to it traditionally, with the specific dates calculated from Sun and Moon phases.
