An International Baccalaureate World School Northeast Middle School (NEMS) is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, the mission of which is "to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect." The Middle Years Programme To accomplish this mission, NEMS offers the IB’s Middle Years Programme (MYP), "a challenging framework that encourages students of all interests and abilities to make practical connections between their studies and the real world." Academic Areas This framework is aligned with NEMS’ academic offerings in the areas of the Arts (including Band, Choir, Dance, and Visual Arts), English Language Arts, Health and Physical Education, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies (including Black Culture and Ethnic Studies), and World Languages (including French, Ojibwe, and Spanish). Other Departments and Programs Other offerings at NEMS during the school day include College and Career Readiness (including AVID, Check & Connect, Counseling and Guidance, and the TRIO Educational Talent Search), Health Services, Library Media, Multilingual (including City of Lakes Americorps, English Learner Programs, and Translation and Interpretation Services), Special Education, and Student Support Services (including the Community School Collaborative, Psychology Services, the School Success Program, and Social Work Services). After School Programs and Community Education After school, NEMS’ Community Education program provides students with the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of academic classes (including Coding, Digital Storytelling, GEMS ((Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science)), GISE ((Guys in Science and Engineering)), KidzLit, Social Justice and You, Swimming, Theater Club, and more) as well as enrichment classes (including Arts and Crafts, Boys 2 Men, Chess Club, Cooking, Dance, Girls Fitness, Movie Club, Native American Drum Teachings for Success, Skate Club, and more).
