Northeast Middle School IB MYP Program

Northeast Middle School has been an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School since 2008. Our mission is to develop young people who value cultural and learning diversity in the school population and in their community. Northeast Middle School students should expect to learn:

  • Research skills
  • Communication skills
  • Social skills

  • Thinking skills

  • Self Management skills

These are also known as IB’s Approaches to Learning.

Northeast emphasizes and values the following IB Learner Profile Traits:

  • Balanced
  • Caring
  • Communicators
  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Open-minded
  • Principled
  • Reflective
  • Risk-takers
  • Thinkers

We are all working to be the best we can be through the traits of the Learner Profile. We celebrate these traits in our advisory program and in our individual classrooms.

Students in the IB MYP study eight subjects each year:

  • Language and Literature (English Language Arts)
  • Language Acquisition (World Language - French, Chinese, and Spanish)
  • Mathematics
  • Sciences
  • Visual and Performing Arts (Art, Dance, Band, Choir)
  • Individuals and Society (Social Studies)
  • Design
  • Physical and Health Education

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme:

  • Addresses holistically students' intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being
  • Provides students opportunities to develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills they need in order to manage complexity and take responsible action for the future
  • Ensures breadth and depth of understanding through study in eight subject groups
  • Requires the study of at least two languages (language of instruction and additional language of choice) to support students in understanding their own cultures and those of others
  • Empowers students to participate in service within the community
  • Helps to prepare students for further education, the workplace

The Middle Years Programme Model is a terrific visual representation of the components of the program. The student is always at the center of what we do at Northeast Middle School!
